Throughout my 50 year career I have never had any reservations about letting go of my work. I have always felt that completing a painting finishes a story for me and that it is time to let that story have a life of it’s own. I know a painting is finished when it tells me more than what I told it. The next story will be seen and heard by others as they process and reflect on how it impacts their lives.
However, over the years there have been pieces that, deliberately or by chance, remained with me. I have always been mindful that my possession was temporary but I have enjoyed watching them talk to each other and felt my understanding of them deepen. They not only retained their unique qualities and references but they also tell a bigger story about my history and the significant events and people that shaped both.
This personal collection of work spans more than three decades and is the work that is presented here.
All in August
